GLAM ORIGINS: AN AFRICAN INSPIRED SHOP

The pandemic gave a lot of people time to reflect on their lives and the things happening around them. It made people confront a lot of things they wouldn't have due to their busy schedules and sheer lack of motivation to do so. It was a time of sober reflection and introspection.

The murder of George Floyd happened at a time where a lot of people around the globe had the time and motivation to think, reflect and act on the events happening around them. As for African Americans (blacks) in the USA, it is the injustice and maltreatment they are facing. The Black Lives Matter movement stood up and confronted what's happening in the USA. The protests were held globally by people from different races, religions, gender, and identity.

Watching all these brave people protest for certain people's rights, most of whom they've never met before and will never meet but displaying the humanity in us all, made me ponder on what to do to contribute to the movement. I know we need to open up and have productive discussions so that we can understand each other. Understanding each other will lead to tolerance, respect, and empathy for one another with the hope of the ultimate realization that we are all human, deserving of respect and need each other to forge ahead in this world.

Glam Origins was borne from the idea of an open and safe space for dialogue. Yes, looking glam doesn't hurt but at the same time, it nudges and encourages people to discuss their roots. It inspires people to reflect and understand that blacks are people with a profound rich history and vibrant culture. Both of which we are immensely proud of. Showing the world that black people deserve to be treated humanely and equally to any human on earth.

Most of the products at Glam Origins are sourced and made in Nigeria, a rich and populous country in West Africa.  These products are made with Ankara, Kitenge, and Kente,( African design fabrics) which are colorful and vibrant. The chic and glamorous products draw compliments, inquisitivity and stir people to prod more about the fashion, opening an avenue for discussions on what African culture and history is all about. Which increases tolerance and opportunities to better understand our differences and similarities. It is my ardent belief that with better understanding, we can build trust and respect for all.

Glam Origins isn't meant for only black people, anyone can benefit from the products and feel chic and glamorous. Our home décor transforms your space to a slice of Africa. It is said "The world is a book, if you don't travel, you only read a page." With Glam Origins, you are transported into Africa's pride and heritage, at a cheaper cost than traveling. Go forth and explore Glam Origins!
